Egg Freezing Clinics

Egg freezing (oocyte cryopreservation)

Eggs are collected after about two weeks of hormone injections and frozen unfertilised, so they can be thawed and used in a future IVF cycle.

Updated

Overview

Egg freezing (oocyte cryopreservation) lets someone store their own eggs for possible use later. The first half of the process is the same as IVF: hormone injections encourage several eggs to mature, and the eggs are collected in a short procedure under sedation. Instead of being fertilised, the mature eggs are frozen and stored in liquid nitrogen. If they are used later, they are thawed, fertilised by ICSI and any resulting embryo is transferred to the womb.

People freeze eggs for medical reasons, such as before cancer treatment or ovarian surgery that may damage fertility, and for personal reasons, such as not yet having a partner or not being ready for a child. ESHRE's guideline on female fertility preservation covers both. Most clinics now freeze eggs by vitrification, a very fast freezing method that the HFEA says is more successful than the older slow-cooling technique.

Egg freezing is not a guarantee of a future baby. The American Society for Reproductive Medicine estimates that each frozen egg has roughly a 2 to 12 per cent chance of leading to a baby, falling with age at freezing, and says planned egg freezing is most likely to succeed when eggs are frozen before 38. How many eggs to aim for, and whether more than one cycle is worthwhile, are questions for a fertility specialist.

Who it's for

  • People about to have chemotherapy, radiotherapy or surgery that may affect the ovaries.
  • People with conditions linked to early loss of eggs, such as endometriosis affecting the ovaries or a family history of early menopause, depending on a specialist's assessment.
  • People who want to keep the option of using their own eggs later because they are not ready, or do not have a partner, now.
  • People having IVF who cannot use fresh eggs on the day, for example if sperm cannot be obtained.

Whether a treatment suits you depends on your own history and tests — discuss it with a fertility specialist.

Step by step

  1. Consultation and tests

A specialist reviews your history and orders tests of ovarian reserve (such as an AMH blood test and an ultrasound count of small follicles), along with infection screening. The results help estimate how many eggs might be collected.

  2. Ovarian stimulation

Daily hormone injections, usually self-administered, run for about ten to twelve days. Several monitoring scans and blood tests check how the follicles are growing and guide the dose.

  3. Trigger injection

When the follicles are ready, a final injection completes egg maturation. Egg collection is timed for about a day and a half later.

  4. Egg collection

Under sedation or anaesthesia, a fine needle guided by a vaginal ultrasound probe draws eggs from the follicles. It usually takes around 20 to 30 minutes, and most people go home the same day.

  5. Freezing

In the laboratory, mature eggs are identified, treated with a protective solution and frozen by vitrification. The clinic should tell you how many eggs were collected and how many were mature enough to freeze.

  6. Storage

Frozen eggs are kept in liquid nitrogen tanks. Storage is usually charged each year, and you will sign a consent and storage agreement that sets out how long eggs can be kept and what happens at the end.

  7. Using the eggs later

When you decide to use them, eggs are thawed, and those that survive are fertilised by ICSI. Embryos are cultured for a few days and one is transferred to the womb in a prepared cycle.

What it costs

The cost comes in three parts: the freezing cycle, yearly storage, and the later IVF cycle to use the eggs. Published Thai prices we found include Superior A.R.T.'s ELITE package at 185,000 baht (standard price 259,000) with three years' storage; Bangkok Hospital's two-part package for fly-in patients at an estimated 264,500 baht plus 1,300 baht per vial per year for storage; and Beyond IVF from 100,000 baht, with storage at 2,000 baht per egg per year. Storage may be charged per egg, per vial or per batch, so compare the yearly cost for the number of eggs you expect to freeze.

Risks and side effects

  • Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS): an over-response to the injections that causes swollen ovaries, bloating and pain. It is usually mild, but rare severe cases need hospital care.
  • Egg collection complications: bleeding, infection or injury to nearby organs are uncommon but possible.
  • Fewer eggs than hoped: people with a low ovarian reserve may produce few eggs, and collection is not always possible.
  • Not all eggs survive thawing, fertilise or develop into embryos, and frozen eggs do not guarantee a pregnancy.
  • A false sense of security: ASRM notes that relying on frozen eggs may lead some people to delay trying for a pregnancy, which can lower their overall chance.
  • Pregnancy at an older age, when the eggs are eventually used, carries higher risks for both the pregnant person and the baby.

Questions to ask a clinic

  • Based on my age and test results, how many eggs might you expect to collect in one cycle?
  • How many eggs would you suggest I aim to store, and might I need more than one cycle?
  • Do you freeze eggs by vitrification, and what proportion of your patients' eggs survive thawing?
  • What does the package include, and how much storage is covered?
  • Is storage charged per egg, per vial or per batch, and can the fee rise?
  • Am I eligible to freeze eggs here, and on what conditions could I use them later in Thailand?
  • What would it cost to thaw and fertilise the eggs and transfer an embryo?
  • Can eggs be moved to a clinic in another country, and who arranges it?

Frequently asked questions

What is the best age to freeze eggs?

ASRM says egg freezing tends to work best in the 20s to early 30s and is most likely to succeed before 38. The right time for you depends on your ovarian reserve and plans, so discuss it with a fertility specialist.

How many eggs are collected in one cycle?

It varies widely. The HFEA says most patients under 38 have around 7 to 14 eggs collected, and that collection may not be possible for people with a low ovarian reserve.

How long can eggs stay frozen?

That depends on the law and the clinic's storage agreement. In the UK, eggs can be stored for up to 55 years with consent renewed every 10 years; Thai clinics set their own terms, so ask for them in writing before you start.

Is egg freezing painful?

The injections can sting and cause bloating. Egg collection is done under sedation or anaesthesia, and cramping for a day or two afterwards is common.

Will frozen eggs give me a baby later?

Not necessarily. Each frozen egg has a modest chance of leading to a baby, and that chance falls with age at freezing. Frozen eggs keep an option open; they are not a guarantee.

Can I freeze eggs if I am single?

Some Thai clinics state that they accept single women for egg freezing, and others refer to using eggs with a legal spouse's sperm. Ask each clinic in writing whether you can freeze eggs and, separately, whether you could later use them in Thailand.

Bumrungrad International Hospital

Bangkok Private tertiary hospital

Eggs are frozen by vitrification and stored at –196°C. The hospital presents the service to three groups: women not yet ready to start a family, women with conditions such as SLE or endometriosis that can hasten the loss of eggs, and women about to have chemotherapy, radiotherapy or ovarian surgery.

The published process begins with a consultation and examination, followed by stimulation injections starting on roughly day 2 or 3 of the menstrual cycle, three or four monitoring appointments, an egg collection lasting about 30 minutes, and then freezing in the lab. Frozen eggs could in principle be stored indefinitely, but the hospital recommends using them within 10 years, and it states they are later fertilised with the legal spouse's sperm.

Bookings, questions and teleconsultations go through the contact centre. Neither a package price nor a storage fee is given.

Bangkok Hospital (Headquarters)

Bangkok Private tertiary hospital

Women travelling to Bangkok to freeze their eggs can see the cost broken down before they book. Stimulation (Package A) is 138,000 baht and includes 10 days of medication, three scans and three appointments with the doctor. Collection and freezing (Package F) is 126,500 baht and covers the doctor's and anaesthetist's fees on the day, theatre and recovery rooms, supplies and the freezing itself. Together they come to an estimated 264,500 baht.

Storage is billed on top, at 1,300 baht per vial for each year. General blood tests, X-rays, medicine to take home, additional diagnostic tests and any hospital, doctor or nursing fees not listed are excluded. These prices apply to fly-in patients and run until 31 December 2026.

The centre encourages anyone thinking of having children later to talk through egg or sperm freezing with its specialists, and it is open every day of the week.

Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital

Bangkok Private tertiary hospital

At Samitivej, egg freezing falls under the Fertility Center's fertility preservation service, along with embryo and sperm freezing. Because the same centre provides IVF and genetic screening, frozen eggs can later be used without moving clinics.

Women for whom conventional stimulation may not be suitable, such as those with PCOS, can ask about IVM, where immature eggs are collected and matured in the laboratory. The hospital's article on IVM explains that freezing eggs or embryos can be needed while the lining of the womb is being readied.

When checked, the website showed no egg-freezing package, storage fee or storage period, and the centre's page does not say who can use the service. It suits women already weighing treatment at Samitivej who would like freezing as part of the same plan, and the centre is open early until late every day.

  • Eggs, embryos and sperm can be frozen
  • IVM considered for women with PCOS
  • IVF on site for later use

Phyathai 2 Hospital

Bangkok Private hospital

Egg freezing at Phyathai 2 is done by the same fertility team and embryo lab that handle its IVF cycles. The centre points out that both the number and quality of eggs drop with age, particularly after 35, and suggests women in that bracket seek advice sooner.

The steps mirror the hospital's IVF pathway. You have hormone injections for roughly eight to ten days while scans and blood tests track progress. Collection is done vaginally, with you either sedated or under general anaesthetic, and takes around 20 to 30 minutes.

There is no published package, storage fee or rule on who can freeze. Women who would rather freeze within a general hospital, with English-speaking staff on hand, may find it suits them.

  • Freezing offered by the fertility centre
  • Same embryo lab as the IVF programme
  • English-speaking support for expatriates

Superior A.R.T.

Bangkok Specialist fertility clinic

Superior A.R.T. publishes a clear price for egg freezing. Its ELITE Egg Freezing Package costs THB 185,000 (THB 259,000 at standard price) for one cycle and covers doctor visits during stimulation, blood and hormone tests, scans, standard medication, the trigger injection, retrieval and its doctor fee, post-retrieval medicines, and freezing of every egg retrieved plus three years' storage. Bought separately, freezing costs a one-off THB 20,000 for up to 10 samples, plus THB 2,500 per sample per year.

The process involves 8–12 days of injections, collection under light anaesthesia, then vitrification at –196°C, with the active phase taking two to three weeks. The clinic presents it for women not yet ready for children or without a partner, before cancer treatment, and for women whose ovarian reserve is low or whose family has a history of early menopause. It notes no strict legal age limit but points to 28–35 as the practical window.

  • Published package price
  • Three years' storage included
  • Every egg collected is frozen
  • Per-sample storage fee listed

Worth confirming: This is a single-cycle promotion that may change; confirm the price, the storage charge from year four onwards and how many visits you will need.

Jetanin Institute for Assisted Reproduction

Bangkok Specialist fertility hospital

Jetanin vitrifies eggs and keeps them in liquid nitrogen at –196°C. Its list of who might freeze is broad: women about to have cancer treatment or another therapy that could harm fertility, those with early menopause in the family, those with ovarian issues such as endometriotic cysts or past surgery, and women who simply are not ready for a child yet. Freezing is also used during IVF if sperm cannot be obtained on egg-collection day.

The hospital reports a baby born from eggs that had been stored for ten years. It cites ISO 9001, ISO 15189, JCI and RTAC for its embryology lab and Thai and ESHRE certification for its embryologists, while noting that age and egg quality shape the result.

There is no published package price, storage fee or storage term, and nothing on whether unmarried women are accepted.

  • Eggs vitrified and kept at –196°C
  • Reported birth from eggs stored ten years
  • Embryology lab accredited by JCI and RTAC
  • For medical or personal reasons

Worth confirming: Request the package price, yearly storage fee and maximum storage period in writing, and check whether women who are not married can take part.

SAFE Fertility Group (Gaysorn Amarin)

Bangkok Specialist fertility clinic group

SAFE states that single women may freeze their eggs for non-medical reasons regardless of marital status, and the package is available at all five of its branches. Eggs are vitrified and kept in liquid nitrogen at –196°C in an ISO-certified facility with 24-hour monitoring. Besides planned freezing, particularly after 35, the group lists it before chemotherapy, radiotherapy or ovarian surgery, for inherited conditions that can affect the ovaries (Turner syndrome and Fragile X are the examples given), and for egg donation where the law allows.

Expect a timeline much like the first half of IVF: bloods and a scan, around 8–10 days of injections and two or three check-up scans, then collection. The brochure includes four monitoring visits, stimulation and trigger drugs, anaesthesia for retrieval and storage for up to 20 eggs during the first year. After that year, storage is charged at THB 10,000 a year per cycle.

SAFE encourages freezing sooner rather than later and says eggs can stay in storage indefinitely.

  • No marital-status requirement
  • Available at every SAFE branch
  • First year's storage in the package
  • Round-the-clock storage monitoring

Worth confirming: Only the storage charge is published; ask for the package price in writing and what is charged if more than 20 eggs are retrieved.

Beyond IVF

Bangkok Specialist fertility clinic

Egg freezing at Beyond IVF sits within a wider fertility preservation service that also freezes embryos and sperm, and it is open to patients about to start cancer treatment and to transgender patients.

Two different price layouts are published. One page quotes egg freezing from 100,000 baht, including a health check, stimulation, collection and freezing. The dedicated egg-freezing page splits it in two: from 35,000 baht for stimulation drugs, scans and follow-ups, and from 44,000 baht for collection and freezing. Storage then costs 2,000 baht for each egg every year.

Since storage is charged egg by egg, freezing more eggs means a higher annual bill, which matters when setting this against clinics that price storage per vial or per batch. Before committing, you can book a free nurse consultation to ask questions.

  • Package from 100,000 baht
  • Per-egg storage at 2,000 baht a year
  • Freezing for cancer and transgender patients
  • Free nurse consultation

Worth confirming: The two price structures do not match and both are starting prices; ask which one you would pay and what storage would cost each year for the number of eggs you expect.

First Fertility PGS Center

Bangkok Specialist fertility clinic

At First Fertility PGS Center, freezing your eggs follows the first half of an IVF cycle. You take the same hormone stimulation, the eggs are collected while you are sedated, and they are then frozen to use later.

The clinic names planning around a career or studies, and cancer treatment, as typical reasons women come to it. What the page does not cover is just as important: there is no package price, no storage fee, no storage period and no statement on who can take part.

Because the clinic's focus is IVF with embryo screening, freezing here makes most sense if you would want to come back and use the eggs for ICSI at the same place. Overseas patients get the same personal-assistant and multilingual support as the IVF programme, but you will need to ask for every cost up front.

  • Freezing for medical or personal reasons
  • Egg collection under sedation
  • Eggs can later go into the clinic's IVF/ICSI and PGS programme

Worth confirming: There is nothing published on storage; before stimulation starts, get the package price, the yearly storage charge and how long eggs can be kept.

Chiang Mai IVF Polyclinic

Chiang Mai Specialist fertility clinic

Egg banking is listed with sperm and embryo freezing, and the clinic presents keeping them frozen long term as a choice open to fertile and infertile people alike. Beyond that, its pages give no egg-freezing programme, no eligibility rules, no package and no storage fees.

Monitoring and egg collection would take place at the same clinic that runs its IVF cycles, in its cleanroom collection rooms and under its stated RTAC accreditation. Opening every day can make the repeated scans of a stimulation cycle easier to fit around a job.

With so little detail online, treat the clinic's listing as a prompt for questions rather than a defined offer. Women in northern Thailand who would prefer not to travel to Bangkok for each scan may want to ask.

  • Banking of eggs, sperm and embryos
  • Stated RTAC accreditation
  • Open daily for monitoring scans

Worth confirming: Check whether single women can freeze eggs, what a freezing cycle and a year's storage cost, and how long eggs may be kept.

SAFE Fertility Group (Phuket)

Phuket Specialist fertility clinic

Women in Phuket can complete the whole egg-freezing cycle at this branch, from monitoring to collection, rather than travelling to Bangkok. SAFE says single women may freeze eggs for social reasons with no restriction on marital status, and the eggs are preserved by vitrification.

The brochure for the package includes four monitoring appointments (blood tests and scans), the stimulation, suppression and trigger medicines, egg retrieval under anaesthesia and storage of up to 20 eggs for the first year. After that, storage costs THB 10,000 per cycle per year, and there is no cap on how many eggs that covers.

The cost of the package is not given anywhere online, so budget for a call or message to the branch before you commit. Ask, too, where the eggs will physically be kept once the first year is over.

  • Single women accepted
  • Monitoring and collection on the island
  • Storage fee published from year two
  • Branch covered by the group's RTAC mark

Worth confirming: Request the package price and find out where your eggs will be stored over the long term.

SAFE Fertility Group (Sriracha)

Pattaya Specialist fertility clinic

If you live in Pattaya or elsewhere in Chonburi, this branch lets you attend monitoring appointments for egg freezing near home. SAFE says single women can freeze eggs for non-medical reasons whatever their marital status, and it uses vitrification.

According to the package brochure, you receive four monitoring appointments (blood tests and scans), the stimulation, suppression and trigger medicines, egg collection under anaesthesia and storage of up to 20 eggs in year one. From year two the charge is THB 10,000 per cycle annually, and that fee is not capped by egg count.

There is no published price for the package itself. Because the group's RTAC mark does not extend to this branch, ask how the Sriracha laboratory is accredited and where your eggs will be kept long term.

  • Single women accepted
  • Monitoring close to Pattaya
  • First year's storage included
  • Storage fee published from year two

Worth confirming: Ask what the package costs, where the eggs will be stored after the first year, and what accreditation the branch laboratory holds.
